Bookbinding Workshops
Longstitch Bookbinding
Participants will have the opportunity to make and take home a multi section book, using a Longstitch sewing method.
The sewing is exposed as a feature on the outside cover spine of the book. Inside the book, space between the pages allows for the optional addition of paper based materials if necessary.
Although this type of book structure has a contemporary appearance in a hardbound cover, it is a bookbinder’s sewing technique with medieval origins.
This book structure is versatile and the sewing method can be applied to hard & soft back covers.
All equipment and materials will be provided for the workshop. This workshop is designed for participants with or without bookbinding experience.

Coptic is an ancient style of binding that adapts beautifully to modern materials. This versatile binding style is the perfect option for using wood, metal, plastic or
other unusual materials for covers. Completely non-adhesive with an exposed spine. Coptic books lay flat when opened and can be expanded to a full 360 degrees.
To start with the substance we will create a view simple, yet elegant book structures. In this daylong workshop, you will fold, punch and sew a Coptic binding with covers
made of decorated binders board.
Some bookbinding experience is helpful, but not necessary.

Case Binding

This elegant and sturdy hardcover binding is perfect for blank journals. Start with some simple skills (gluing, folding, etc.) and over the two class sessions make one beautiful book. We start with a short introduction about bookbinding and book art. We then go on to make one to two sample books with soft covers. And than bind a larger text block to include in our hardcase cover.
