Gelatin Printmaking
This class is an introduction to gelatin plate printmaking made with found objects and stencils. It's a fun and wonderfully experimental process that gives results that vary from the abstract to the photographic. The gelatin plate is made of food grade gelatin. This soft malleable gelatin is covered with non-toxic ink, and then marks are made in the ink with found objects and stencils. Once you have experimented with the materials you can start to focus on combining methods to create a series of pleasing prints. Class will begin with a demonstration of how to use found object and stencils, how to use the "ghost print", and layer patterns on top of one another. Students will be given the majority of the class to experiment with the gelatin process, with the guidance of the instructor. Thursday 6:30-8:30pm February 8 Cost: $65 |

Creative Monoprint
Monoprinting is a form of printmaking in which the artist draws or paints on a non-absorbent material, such as plastic, glass or zinc, and then prints the image onto paper. The image and non-image areas lie together on the same surface of the plate. After the image has been printed once, the remaining pigment can then be reworked, but the subsequent print will not be an exact replica of the previous print. Monoprints can also be created by inking an entire surface and then, using brushes or rags, ink is removed to create a subtractive image. Monoprints may include collage, hand-painted additions, or overlaying and are viewed as a spontaneous combination of printmaking, painting and drawing. The process can produce unique prints or variations on a theme. Cost: $65 |

Collograph: Instructor: Nicole Eiland Collagraphy is a very open printmaking method. It is a printmaking process in which materials are applied to a rigid substrate (such as paperboard or wood). The plate can be intaglio-inked, inked with a roller or paintbrush, or some combination thereof. Ink or pigment is applied to the resulting collage, and the board is used to print onto paper or another material using either a printing press or various hand tools. Substances such as glue, acrylic texture mediums, sandpapers, bubble wrap, string, cut card, leaves and grasses can all be used in creating the collograph plate. Come enjoy this fun, experimental printmaking process and create works of art with found objects and imagination. Cost: $65 |
